I am a former French teacher with over twenty years of experience teaching French and English grammar. Every student learns differently. Therefore, I believe lessons should be tailored to meet individual learning styles. In addition to giving students the information they need to make informed choices about the subject matter they are learning, I also find it helpful to question them in order to challenge them to find answers on their own, as well as to test their comprehension. This can be frustrating at times - and part of my job is to keep this from becoming too frustrating - but the rewards are immense as students arrive at answers on their own. This is when true, authentic learning takes place.
If you are coming to me for help with your French, you may find that we spend a significant amount of time on English grammar. That is because it is important to understand the mechanics of your own language (English) in order to effectively transfer that knowledge to another language such as French. But don't worry! We will spend plenty of time on your French, too! Just don't get discouraged when we review your English as a prelude to your study of French.
If you are coming to me to improve your English or writing skills, my years of foreign language teaching have prepared me very well for assisting you in those endeavors, as well. Additionally, I am an avid writer, myself. I maintain my own blog and am working on a collection of short stories and novellas.
