HI! I'm a Purdue University graduate, majoring in Communications with a focus in Advertising. I also have a double minor in Spanish and Art and Design. I did a study abroad in Sevilla, Spain. This provided me with the opportunity to travel around Europe and experience different cultures. Freshman year, I helped out my fellow Boilermakers in their Spanish classes, and by sophomore year I realized that I truly enjoyed tutoring. I like knowing that I have helped someone attain their goals. Thus, I became and ESL tutor, working with native Spanish speakers. I emphasized the importance of basic grammar, vocabulary, and conversational skills. In addition I helped people study to pass their citizenship test. I make sure to work at the student's pace. I know some students need additional time where as others pick up on things very quickly. I also realize that every student has different goals, so I alter my techniques to match them.
LEARNING IS SUPPOSE TO BE FUN! This is why I like to work one on one with people, or in small groups. I get to learn about all my students on a personal level and can adapt my program to best suit them.
I grew up here in Houston and attended The Kinkaid School. There, I studied Spanish my kindergarten through high school graduation. Sophomore year I participated in a volunteer program called AMIGOS de las Americas. During the summer of 2004, I lived in an impoverished community in Nicaragua. Here, I was 1 out of 2 people that spoke English.
After working at an advertising agency in Chicago for 3 years, I have returned to Houston. I currently am a graduate student at Rice University obtaining a Master of Liberal Studies. On Fridays I like to attend a brunch where we sit and converse only in Spanish. EVEN I LIKE TO PRACTICE!
