I have played most instruments in the clarinet
family for 15 years and in that time I have earned a Bachelors in Music
and a minor in education with certification to teach all levels of student in the state of Texas. In the first lesson with the student, I take time to get to know them and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses so I can start putting together a lesson plan. My style of teaching is to talk to the student as an equal, push their knowledge to its limit then, through leading questions, guide them towards filling in the gaps. I teach the art
of playing clarinet, but also include the science
, and language
studies that are associated with it and how they connect to their general studies. My end goal for every school-age student is to bring their performance and knowledge up to the level required to enter a prestigious conservatory.
The members of the clarinet family I teach are: "B-flat" (the standard clarinet), "A" clarinet (orchestral), "E-flat" clarinet, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, contralto clarinet, and contrabass clarinet.
My work experience: I have taught private lessons from 2006-2008, finished my degree, then returned to teaching in 2012 where in my first semester of teaching I guided several students into earning entry to their region bands. Of the 7 of my students that entered the Texas UIL solo contest, 5 of them earned the highest ranking. I perform on clarinet for the Cypress Symphonic Band and serve on its board of directors. Since 2010 I have been an assistant audio engineer, setting up and operating audio equipment at recitals and band concerts. I currently work at Smith Middle School of CFISD as their Clarinet lesson teacher.
Consultation services: If your student is looking to pick up an instrument for the first time, I can schedule a meeting with you for minimal cost at a reputable music shop to help you find an instrument that is well built and affordable. Please contact me for details.
