My name is Blake W. and I am available to teach a wide range of subjects. I'm a recent Master's graduate of Texas A&M University. I received my graduate degree in public policy/public administration. My graduate degree focused on health policy, particularly the implementation of health policy in hospital settings.

I received my undergraduate degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Political Science from the University of North Texas in 2012. I have experience tutoring multiple subjects and have guest taught political science courses for my professors at Texas A&M. While at the University of North Texas, I tutored many individuals in government, biology, chemistry, and microbiology. I'm currently a full-time political lobbyist and adjunct professor of political science at Lone Star College in Houston. I teach both federal and Texas government to students in an online and face-to-face setting.

My approach to learning is that each student has a different learning style and I am equipped to tailor my approach to each student's needs.

I am very flexible with my availability and I am willing to travel to meet with a student.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

As a student at the University of North Texas, I served as Student Body President. In this role, I delivered speeches to multiple groups of people, ranging from 50-10,000 in size. These groups have ranged from speaking to fellow students at orientation to addressing a group of university fundraisers. I have introduced many important political figures (Suze Orman, Robert Gates) before large crowds. Additionally, I have coached multiple individuals on public speaking.

Social Studies

As a doctoral student in political science/public policy at Texas A&M University, I have a great deal of knowledge about the social sciences and social studies. Much of my research as a doctoral student is interdisciplinary across a range of subjects (sociology, political science, psychology, economics) and I can use this expertise to tutor and encourage students in their studies. I believe my work in this field will lend itself to helping students in social studies.

Study Skills

As both a college graduate and current doctoral student, I have been dedicated to my education from the beginning. In my time as an undergraduate at the University of North Texas, I developed exceptional study skills. I taught myself and my peer group how to improve note-taking, retain information and understand concepts. Study skills start in the classroom, from taking extensive notes that can be used later to asking the right questions of your instructor. I understand each student has a unique learning style and I am prepared to offer guidance tailored to meet your needs.

TAKS

I have lived in Texas since I was born and I have been taking the TAAS/TAKS exams since third grade. I made perfect scores on almost all of these exams and have helped many peers in the past. Additionally, I have a degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry/Political Science and am well-informed on all of the subjects covered by these exams. Doctoral students must have excellent reading/writing skills and my experience in the program at Texas A&M has only strengthened these skills.
