Hi, my name is Sarah and I've been a tutor for 10 years now! I started off as a math tutor for a local community college in Houston (Lonestar College). I eventually moved on to work with Kaplan, where I was an SAT tutor for all sections of the test (math, reading, writing). I worked in both a classroom setting and in one-on-one situations. Since leaving Kaplan, I have been tutoring independently in a wide variety of subjects, ranging from middle school to adult/continuing education learners. My main subjects are standardized tests (SAT/ACT/GRE) and basic math and science (high school algebra, geometry, biology, chemistry). I was a National Merit Scholar as well as a Bill Gates Foundation Scholar. I went to Rice for my undergrad degree, have a Master's from UT Houston, and am in medical school right now.
I love learning, and I firmly believe that EVERYONE should have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential - and oftentimes that takes personalized and dedicated attention. It also takes a tutor who knows the high-yield concepts AND the strategies to maximize what the student knows. I never drill information into students; I make sure they understand all the important topics and then give them tips and tricks to approach questions. I'm also very friendly and always have a smile on my face - probably because helping others makes me happy!
