I am a University of Houston graduate with a BS in Chemistry and a volunteer at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. I know that textbooks and teachers can often explain new concepts in the simplest forms, but give problems that are more complex than those explanations, sometimes leaving students lost, even those who understand the basics.
I aim to help students improve their understanding of both the basics and the more complex aspects of the concepts they are having difficulty grasping through their own schoolwork and textbooks and, once I am aware of the subjects they are having trouble with, worksheets of my own creation. I prefer to help students along by prompting them to find the answers for themselves, if those answers are available from their own materials, but sometimes a concept needs a better explanation than the books provide and the best help comes from asking those that understand those concepts well enough to explain them to others. Ultimately, I hope to make my students into the type of person that can help someone sharing their struggle to understand.
