My experience teaching first began as a tutor/teacher’s assistant at Stony Brook University’s Economics department in 2008. Two years after graduation, I started as a teacher at Pro-Vision middle school where I was a math teacher for 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Pro-vision is a very unique school where we believe in second chances for all students. Many of my students have been expelled from their district or charter schools and attend Pro-vision for a second chance. Working at this school has taught me so much about working with high-needs students. Teaching three grade levels at Pro-vision was no easy tasks, but it has lead me to be immensely organized, patient, observant and relentless.
In 2011 I also had an opportunity to work in a high performing charter school in New York City, where I taught summer school math and helped 6th grade students transition successfully into 7th grade. Tutoring and working in small groups has always been a strong suit of mine during my teaching experiences and I would love to continue that as a tutor for you. I look forward to speaking with you and I thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Vanessa
