Students, business travelers, tourists! There's something special about being able to communicate with people in their own language. It makes all the difference in how you are perceived and received. Not to mention, it's a much richer experience.
I lived and traveled extensively in Spain and Latin America (including Brazil) and can not only teach the linguistics part of Portuguese and Spanish, but can also teach the cultural meaning behind the language. In a summer program in Guatemala during high school, I was taught Spanish one-on-one by non-English speaking tutors and I believe that this is a very effective way to teach and build confidence in the student. Focus is less on a particular word or sentence that the student is learning or doesn't know, and more on learning that there are a variety of ways to relay information to another person in their native language.
I'll work with the student to create a plan of study and to determine his/her goals at the beginning of the program. Progress will be made quickly in reading, speaking, comprehension and writing.
I can work with students in a formal school program, or a business person wanting to impress potential clients, or just the enthusiastic traveler! I look forward to working with you!
