Hi! My name is Leslie, and I would love to help you learn!
I am a graduate of the University of Texas with a B.A. in English with Honors. I have experience working with all ages of students in a lot of different subjects, but my favorite things to work on are ESL, reading skills, and writing coaching. I have been teaching with ELS Language Centers in Houston for about a year and a half, teaching classes of adults and sometimes children in learning the English language. I help students learn about all aspects of the language, covering grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. I have also coached students from age 5 all the way up to adults in becoming better readers, spanning skills from phonics awareness and story elements (for younger readers) to analysis and even speed-reading techniques (for more mature learners). My reading coaching has happened in private lessons and in classes through the Institute of Reading Development. In addition to helping my English students learn to write excellent essays and other types of pieces, I was a writing consultant at the UT-Austin's Undergraduate Writing Center while I studied there, helping students with all types of writing, from resumes to academic essays to creative writing.
I love working with any student that wants to learn, but I especially love helping elementary students and have worked with this age group on more general topics. If your child is having trouble successfully reading, or enjoying it; if he or she gets frustrated with math; or if they just can't seem to focus enough to finish their homework--I am definitely willing to help them tackle those challenges and come out victorious.
