I have tutored or taught mathematics since I was in the 10th grade. That is when I discovered that I love doing it and trying to get others to like it too. I have been around a lot of students who say that they just don't get it, but I never give up on them. The main courses that I have taught or tutor are algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. At my present job a lot of students come back and thank me for helping them reach their goals or get their degree.

Cornell's subjects

####
Algebra 1

In Algebra 1 students are exposed to exponents and what they mean. They are also taught how to factor and solve for unknowns in equations of one variable or a two variable systems of equations. Student are taught how to set up and solve elementary word problems.

####
Algebra 2

Algebra 2 basically introduces the notion of a function, and it extends this notion to a variety of different types of functions. We see polynomial, exponential, logarithmic functions and more. It also studies more complicated systems of equations and the methods of solution.

####
Calculus

Calculus uses algebra and trigonometry along with a new notion called the limit extensively through the entire course. The limit is used to define two new concepts which are called the derivative or the integral of a function. We are now able to solve a variety analytical geometry problems which we could not solve with trigonometry and algebra alone.

####
Prealgebra

Prealgebra covers factoring and how to solve for the unknown variable for basic equations. It also makes sure that the student has a thorough understanding of fractions. A small amount of elementary word problems are also included.

####
Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a combination of algebra and geometry. It tries to use both algebra and geometry to solve complicated geometry problems. The algebra is on the level of algebra 2; the student must completely understand functions to succeed at trigonometry. New functions called transcendental functions are introduced and are used through out the course to solve a wide variety of problems.
