For the last ten years, I have been working as an adjunct instructor in the area of developmental mathematics at Houston Community College System (HCCS) and Lone Star College (Fairbanks Center). I teach all levels of the developmental math classes. I enjoy working in this environment, because the student population is rather diverse. Whether the students are young or old, I seem to relate well with them. Most of the students who come in at this level simply hate math or else they fear it. I enjoy the process of helping them see the simplicity of math by stressing the rules. Eventually, they develop confidence in their own abilities, and they realize that there is nothing to fear.
