Reading Tutor Specializing in Dyslexia Instruction

I am a certified teacher with 15 years teaching experience, 13 in Reading Intervention and 6 in Dyslexia instruction.

I begin with a thorough assessment of each student to assess their reading deficits, and determine a reading level at which to begin. I am able to assess for dyslexia characteristics and tendencies and work with students accordingly. I use a variety of techniques with each student, including manipulatives, computer programs, games, and leveled reading texts. As the student progresses, their reading level is gradually increased until they are reading at grade level. I do not have a one size fits all approach to tutoring, realizing that every student is different and unique. I custom fit my tutoring to each student to give them exactly what they need to progress.

I have had excellent success working with students in this manner, and can show previous student progress over the course of a school year if desired.

Reading

I have taught 6th through 8th grade reading improvement and was a Dyslexia/Reading Intervention Specialist in the Pasadena ISD. In addition I was a reading instructor for Sylvan Education Solutions where I worked with students to improve their reading skills. In total I have 14 years experience in teaching remedial reading, and 6 years experience working with dyslexic students.

ESL/ESOL

I hold a State of Texas Certification in ESL, and have worked with many Limited English Proficient students in the Pasadena ISD, helping them to improve their reading and writing skills.

Elementary Math

I have a certification in Elementary Ed, and taught remedial math for several years, as well as third, fifth grade math.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified in the state of Texas to teach grades 1 - 8. I have taught 3rd, 5th, and 6-8th grade reading improvement.

Phonics

I worked for Sylvan Education Solutions (Sylvan in Schools) for 7 1/2 years, where I was trained in the teaching of phonics. I use several methods with the students including oral, computer and written lessons.

Dyslexia

I was a Dyslexia/Reading Intervention Specialist in the Pasadena ISD in Pasadena TX for six years. I received my dyslexia training through PISD along with some classes offered through Neuhaus in Houston and a workshop offered through Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas TX.

My training included assessing for dyslexia as well as dyslexic tendencies and characteristics, and then working with the students to help them compensate/overcome their reading difficulties.
