Hi, I’m Janell; I’m here to help you succeed in achieving your goals. Having a learning disability myself and having a son with reading comprehension problem, I understand how both the student and parent feels when the goal you want to achieve is so close, yet you can’t touch it. I have reached every goal I have set for myself and have helped others achieve their goals, as well.

I work well with students, who are in athletics. Many of these students need to be motivated in a different format than average students. Some athletes have trouble with organizing their thoughts and understanding the subject matter. I'm able to help them set goals and to visually see the subject. I can help them break subject matters down into athletic terms that they may understand how to complete the work.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and a Master's Degree in Education. I have over 20 years of experience working and volunteering with the public and college students. I’ve worked for youth non-profits and in administration of Universities.

I am a volunteer and Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scout troop 95 and a life member of the Girl Scouts. I have volunteered for numerous community and school organizations. Volunteering and working in the field of higher education I have worked with diverse populations. I enjoy and understand different cultural needs. I have completed Boy Scout Youth Protection Training and have passed the state of Texas background check for substitute teaching for Pasadena ISD.

History is important in that not knowing the past it can come back in your future. We’ve all heard the old saying that “History repeats itself.” Let me help you understand history, so you don’t have to repeat it. History can be fun and interesting.

Having confidence in speaking to others can help one achieve the goals they dream. I can show you how you can become a confident public speaker. I can help you write a speech, deliver it and create a power point presentation that will make your audience remember you. Being able to be a confident speaker in public will help you achieve better grades in other subjects. Let me show you how you can succeed.

American History

American History is my pastime. I enjoy reading and learning more about the subject. Many students see this subject as boring; I can help you see it as the most exciting subject it is. History is something that is being made everyday.

Career Development

Having been a university recruiter and membership specialist for youth organizations, career development is used as one of the main aspects to help potential students decide on what degree they should work towards.
As a membership specialist we use career development tools in helping place volunteers in the organization. This tool is used to help the organization achieve both happy volunteers and productive methods for the organization.

College Counseling

I have worked in student services for numerous years for the University of Houston @ Clear Lake and for Texas A&M in Corpus Christi. My master’s thesis was in recruiting for higher education. I have worked with older students who feel they couldn't go back to school because they were to old. I helped them find the confidence they needed to succeed. I can help you with paper work from FAFSA to essay questions.

Cooking

I have cooked for over 30 years and enjoy teaching young children and adults. I have taught Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts different cooking methods.

Public Speaking

I have a degree in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina @ Wilmington and 20 years' experience in Recruiting members and Public Speaking.

I have coached many students in the field of public speaking. Many adults simply need help with how to present presentations for their jobs and I can help you with this.

I am also very familiar with the non-profit organization of Toastmaster's. I have had the great pleasure of coaching The Galveston's Semi-Finalist World Champion Orator of International Toastmaster's for her World Championship Speech for the summer of 2013.

I have worked in the field of Marketing and Recruiting for Youth organizations and Universities.

I have MCed numerous Banquets, Retirement Dinners, Farewell Luncheons, Non-Profit events for both Universities and Youth Organizations.

I tutor both adults and children on how to give a presentation to both peers, organizations and teachers. I can help with salesmanship and help you close a deal.

Study Skills

I have developed strong study skill strategies over the years working in the higher educational system. I can help students use tools such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Scholar Google, and keyboarding, as well as traditional study skill methods to include: note-taking, flashcards, time management, mnemonics, and outlining methods.

The greatest tutor you could ever have — I did several attempts to attain the required score TOEFL -it is a very high score and difficult to get- to obtain my professional license. I took one session with Janell and immediately she diagnosed the main language problems. After this session I did one more attempt and I got a very high score. She basically taught me how to speak with clear pronunciation. She is very patient and always use ...
