I will make learning biology an exciting, fun, challenging, and meaningful adventure. I like all fields of science; however, I really enjoy the area of biology. It is through the field of biology that we are able to explore, research and understand living systems. Although non-living factors and systems directly and indirectly impact living systems, it is uncovering of the workings of living systems that fascinate my interest in the field of biology. As a result, I have been able to convey my passion for science in a manner that enables students to effectively learn biology.
I am Texas certified in Biology as well as Composite Science. I taught science for fourteen years in public schools within the Houston metropolitan area. I Texas certified in Administration and I pursued an equal amount of years in administration (Dean of Instruction, Assistant Principal). Presently, I am a manager of a living resource center. Here, I grow and maintain over 51 different organisms (microorganisms, mealworms, walking sticks, fish, plants, etc.) and provide them for use in K-12 science classrooms. I provide instruction on the use of these organisms and associated science equipment to teachers as well as students. Throughout my work career, I have continuously worked in the area of science. In fact, this summer, I just returned in June 2012 from a 3-day Earth Science Workshop at the University of Austin (J.J. Pickle Geoscience Institute)and in July 2012 from a 5-day SECME Summit in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
As a life-long learner and instructor, I believe that I am able to elicit student's knowledge and interest and engage them into a life-long appreciation of biology as well as those factors which impact living systems. I provide pertinent concise background information and facilitate hands-on exploration of key biological concepts. I strive to plan lessons in a manner that will suit a student's interests by making real-life applications. These real-life applications extend to sharing diverse career opportunities in the field of science.
