I am currently teaching Psychology at a local Houston college and, for 4 or 5 years, taught a class in Mass Communications at a state university. I have also been a Psychotherapist in private practice for 25 years, and I feel very comfortable tutoring sociology, philosophy, study skills, reading, writing, philosophy, public speaking and helping students to increase communication skills, etc. (Even if those abstract subjects may not be where you need tutoring, I can always help you unravel learning blocks that take the form of procrastination, not investing in learning 100%, an inability to retain information, etc. We all come up with some creative reasons to underachieve).

Throughout my 25-year career as a psychotherapist, there has always been a psychological disease "du jour." ADD and Adult ADD have been "it" for the last 10 years or so. Occasionally hyperactivity is involved, but the experts are not sure if after the age of 7 or 8, the hyperactivity is actually "organic" to the condition so much anymore. But that's not important to me as a tutor. Regardless, if you as a child, adolescent or adult fighting to focus, follow through or even learn and retain -- whether it's ADD or PTSD or just free-floating anxiety -- over the long run the client is going to feel "less than" his peers and colleagues. Trying to make good grades, go to college and manage a high-powered position is difficult enough without the "secret or stigma" of ADD. Add to it that the medical field believes your brain chemistry to be faulty can be devastating.
Additionally,in most cases, medication does have a positive influence for individuals so diagnosed.
