Hello! Thank you in advance for taking interest in who I am. Professionally I taught children ages PK-6th grade over a span of 30 years in Texas public education. I discovered early on that most children learn best when given a variety of methods to draw from. I love the use of touch, movement, repetition, singing, rhymes, but especially all tactile modems. Research is very clear about the higher degree of understanding and retention that the mind accepts when given opportunity to explore subject matter thoroughly. Unfortunately for most children in the regular classroom, the constraints of time, class size, and schedules limits even the most desirous of teachers to be able to take the extra measures to cement learning. I have found that once children (even older elementary age) are given the opportunities to explore their senses, they often become enthusiastic and encouraged that learning is NOT out of their reach.
I am a very engaging, accepting, and encouraging person all around, but I have a special affinity for children. I do have clear expectations for behavior and for the use of the time that is given to accomplish tasks. I encourage parents to be around to see what is happening so they can see the benefits and replicate the exercises in the time between sessions.
I have a strong background in phonics and in teaching language arts, including reading. My strength in helping kids with math difficulties is in being able to quickly discern the root of their problems. Again I use lots of different ways to help kids arrive at understanding.
