Vocabulary

To teach vocabulary, I use prefixes, root words, and suffixes. In addition, I use word associations.

Grammar

Grammar is one of my favorite skills to teach. I use mathematics concepts to make grammar tangible. A "called" teacher has the instinctive ability to simplify the complex. I am called.

Reading

I am a certified, experienced English and business teacher. I have taught English I – IV, English as a Second Language, Literary Genres, TAKS, and GED classes. Using math is an effective way to teach writing. I use this innovative technique to simplify grammar and writing. In addition, I provide model essays.

As a published writer and experienced English teacher, I help students produce results.

English

My natural talents lie in English Language Arts. As a result, I can tutor and teach anything related to ELA, whether it is phonics, reading, literature, public speaking, business communications, vocabulary, ESL, grammar, proofreading, spelling, compositions, or the verbal portion of all standardized tests. I can use my ability and experience to help you improve your skills!

ESL/ESOL

As a certified ESL teacher, I have studied techniques which help me simplify language concepts so that international students can understand them.

I have used these skills to help ESL students speak and write English.

Literature

Literature is my second favorite subject. To me, teaching literature is teaching life. I understand and explain literature so that students can succeed in this subject.

I teach literary terminology and help students apply these definitions to the reading selection as well as to life. I make the "big" ideas "small" enough to master!

Proofreading

I use strong reading and grammar skills to teach proofreading. In addition, I have several years of experience editing a magazine which required extreme attention to detail.

Finally, as an English teacher, proofreading is my middle name!

GED

I am a trained language GED teacher who has helped students pass this section of the test. I use my English teaching experience to help my students pass this test.

SAT Reading

I teach SAT reading by incorporating curriculum and relying on my SAT teaching background.

SAT Writing

I teach SAT writing by relying upon proven curriculum, using my experience as an SAT writing teacher, and using my writing background.

Spelling

Teaching spelling can be challenging. However, I use a technique which I learned several years ago, and, to me, this is still the best method.

This simple technique is the most effective I have ever discovered. It works!

ACT Reading

As an avid reader and someone with an affinity for language, I am naturally strong in the verbal section of standardized testing. I can use this talent to help prepare you for your coursework.

ACT English

Using reliable ACT study guides, administering diagnostic tests, and relying on my English teaching strategies, I work diligently to prepare students for standardized tests.

Elementary (K-6th)

As an experienced tutor, I have worked with students from 5-60+. This experience includes literacy and phonics. I am a published writer and experienced English, ESL, GED, and business teacher as well.

Phonics

To teach phonics, I familiarize students with the sounds consonants, vowels, and blends make. Then, we practice these until the student is comfortable enough to begin putting sounds together to make words. Pretty soon, the student is reading!

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a reading obstacle I help students overcome. I use verbal clues, drawings, read alouds, patience, and encouragement. Also, I break the text into smaller portions, knowing this challenge can be overcome.
