I have been a professor since 2005 and teach subjects ranging from public speaking, writing, and other forms of media and communications to algebra. I have been a private tutor since October of 2011. Prior to my career in higher education, I was employed by a Fortune 20 company as a Marketing Specialist, which involved writing marketing collateral, newsletters, business letters and the like. In addition, I have done freelance public relations since 2007 and have written everything from press releases to product descriptions, not to mention business documents such as crisis management plans.
I am a published, award winning poet and have written other pieces such as articles and research papers. I have excellent proofreading and editing skills, am well-versed in teaching students of all ages - from kids to adults, and know how to tailor a learning program to the individual. I look forward to working with students on a one-on-one basis to help them achieve their education, professional, and personal communication and educational goals.
I have been teaching algebra on the college level since 2010. It is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I have been told repeatedly that I make it easy to understand and learn algebra. I try to make it fun as well whenever I can, as I believe that people tend to learn better when they are having fun.
As a college professor, I have taught many types of classes, ranging from college algebra to writing to public speaking and general studies. I have a well-rounded education and love to teach, so helping others study for the GED is something I would love to do.
I have been a musician since I was a young child, learning some instruments on my own while studying others, such as guitar, flute, and saxophone, with qualified instructors or in the school band programs. I was in the band in Junior High and High School, through the tenth grade. I played started on flute and played tenor sae from 6th grade through 10th grade. I was always in the top band (symphonic) as well as the jazz band. I made straight I's at competition (the best score one can receive) in both solo and ensemble endeavors. My strongest instrument, by far, is tenor saxophone. I learned how to read music in fourth grade and can still read music. In addition, I am able to play music by ear as well. I have confidence that I can help others learn to read music as well as give bsaic instruction to beginning tenor saxophone students.
I have been teaching communication on the college level since 2005, and grammar is one of the subjects I teach most. I enjoy helping others improve their communication skills because I know that things such as grammar, writing, and speaking are essential to good communication, and good communication is essential to success in work, school, and life in general.
I have been teaching public speaking on the college level since 2005. It is the one class I have taught more than any other class over my 7 years teaching at the college level. My bachelor's degree is in Radio-Television with an emphasis on broadcast news. My master's degree is in Mass Communication with an emphasis on public relations. I am confident that, given my education and my experience teaching the subject as well as my experience speaking in front of an audience, I can help anyone improve his or her public speaking and presentation abilities. I have had phenomenal results helping students overcome their public speaking fears and learn to be effective public speakers.
I have been playing saxophone for decades. I have a good handle on how to read music as well as the basic, fundamentals of playing the saxophone. I have been a musician since I was a young child and am confident that my ability to teach music - particularly saxophone (as that is my main instrument at which I excel) - is strong and will be beneficial to any student wanting to learn to play saxophone.
Since 2005, I have been teaching writing at the college level. I have also been employed in various marketing and public relations positions and have written everything from articles to newsletters to marketing collateral. I love teaching and enjoy helping others reach their communication goals.
