For the past 12 years I have been teaching in public schools in Houston and surrounding cities. I have been an extra teacher, a substitute teacher and an associate teacher. My experience has been with all grades, pre K thru 12, and all subjects. Some of the subjects I have taught, besides just math, english, and history are art, auto mechanics, computer technology, special ed, auto body, teen leadership, ESL, P.E., social studies, choir, music, reading, and I have also worked in the library, the lunch room and in the nurses office.
For 4 years, I worked as an extra teacher with students with behavioral problems at an alternative school.
For another 4 years, I volunteered at our church in the afternoon program, tutoring elementary students in reading and spelling.
My biggest satisfaction comes from helping a child with some area of difficulty understanding a concept that they thought was really hard and then their face lights up and they say "Oh, now I get it"!
Some of the comments about me from students I have taught are, strict but, nice, fun, and funny, and, now, I get it.
Sometimes, I tell my students about my own child and how he became so smart. First they yawn and then I tell them that through lots of homework during elementary and all my teachable moments I had with him really paid off for Middle school and High school. He turned out to be smart and cool!
