Hi, I am Mike. I am a results-oriented and compassionate teacher with 7 years of experience in Algebra 1 & 2. I have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and am a thesis shy of a master’s degree in electrical engineering with 8 years of experience in engineering and project management. My journey toward education started with my calculus professor in college who impacted and inspired me to develop a passion for mathematics; this passion compelled me to take a sabbatical from engineering for 7 years, to share and inspire young minds to develop that same passion for mathematics and learning in general.

I specialize in tutoring Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Biology, Anatomy, and Organic Chemistry for success in high school and SAT, GED, and ASVAB exams. Whether we are translating words into algebraic equations or memorizing 206 bones in an adult human skeleton, one of my objectives for each session is to keep the student challenged, but, not discouraged. I assign challenging homework after each lesson, and provide timely feedback.

I am committed to a high standard and often ask for feedback; I never bill for a lesson in which the student or parent is not completely satisfied with my service.

I look forward to hearing from and making a difference in your academic life.

ACT Math

The key to success in the math portion of ACT is knowledge and proper preparation. Having successfully earning A's in all my math classes from middle school to high school and earning A's in Calculus 1, 2, & 3, Advanced Calculus, and Differential Equations 1 & 2, I have the knowledge. Scoring in the 94th percentile on the math portion of the ACT, I can help you. I have a system in successfully passing any standardized tests, such as ACT math.

ADD/ADHD

During the Summer of 2010, I personally tutored a college student who was taking Organic Chemistry 1 & 2, both for the second time. She had an ADHD, in which her attention span was no more than 15 minutes. She utilized her Blackberry in class, sending texts or internet surfing, as a coping mechanism to withstand the 2-hour lecture, 4 days a week. It was a torture for her but desire to attend Optometry School was stronger than her current situation. Therefore I developed a 15-minutes On & 5-minute Off tutoring session. During her 5-minute break she texted. She earned As in both classes and informed me that she never earned a grade higher than a B in any of her Chemistry classes, let alone Organic Chemistry.

If your desire is strong enough, then the facts don't count!

Algebra 1

I tutor Algebra 1 the most. It is the foundation for all complex mathematics. Mastery in Algebra 1 is the stepping stone for developing a love for mathematics; with confidence and courage, anyone can develop a solid foundation in Algebra 1.

Even if you don't like Algebra, but, need to succeed in math to meet your educational goals, I've developed a systematic approach to learning and mastering this subject.

Algebra 2

I have two years of teaching experience in Algebra 2. It is a challenge for many students to master it. I always tell my students, that, "Algebra 2 is like walking through a mine field; in order for you to make it to the other side, you must follow the footsteps of the someone who made it." I can help you get to the other side and we can celebrate our success together!

Even if you don't like Algebra, but need to succeed in math to meet your educational goals, I've developed a systematic approach to learning and mastering this subject.

Anatomy

Anatomy is very fresh in my mind. I've earned the highest grade in my Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 class during summer 2012. How did I do that with basic knowledge of biological science? I have a system of studying for classes that require memorizing high volumes of information in a short period of time and will help you apply that skill on our first tutoring session.

ASVAB

As a military brat, I wanted to serve my country for at least four years after high school. Scoring 98th percentile overall on ASVAB, I was ready to choose my MOS and get started, but, my high school counselor helped me to earn a full scholarship to attend college. If you desire to score high on your ASVAB test, I can help you. I have a system for successfully passing standardized multiple choice tests. Contact me.

Biology

Biology is an exciting subject. It is a foundational class for all biological science classes: botany, zoology, anatomy, physiology, molecular biology, embryology, comparative anatomy, microbiology, virology, and cell biology. Biology require you to memorize high volumes of information in a short period of time. I have a system to help you learn high volumes of information and succeed in taking tests on our first tutoring session. Contact me.

GED

As an educator with over 7 years of experience, I realize the importance of earning a GED to complete one's high school education. Over the years of teaching & learning, I've developed a systematic approach to studying for standardized tests, such as GED and can help anyone, who is motivated, to succeed in passing the GED tests, first time.

General Computer

With 7+ years of experience as an electrical engineer, I've used PCs and laptops for work-related and personal use. I am proficient in most of the software or can quickly learn to use it. I can self-teach just about any software out in the market place. Also, I have general knowledge of Wireless LAN (WiFi), DSL, WiMax, Ethernet, Fiber-optic networks, and many IEEE-based communication protocols.

I can consult on best technology arrangements for small office. Overall, if you need general computer help, then, I can help you.

Organic Chemistry

In the Summer 2010, I took Organic Chemistry 1 & 2 with labs and earned an A in both classes. As an engineer, I developed a systems-approach to tackling any subject, especially Organic Chemistry. I proved the system and had two of my study group members to follow the identical system. At the end of the summer session, we all earned the highest grades in the class of 40 students. The two study group members continued to implement the system in their studies in Pre-Dental curriculum; both graduated with high-honors and are now first year dental students at UT-Houston Dental School.

I can help you succeed in Organic Chemistry!

Prealgebra

I've taught & tutored Prealgebra to homeschoolers for one year. During my experience, I've learned to instruct and explain using puzzles, games & fun analogies to explain the concepts of fractions, integers, negative numbers, and such. I make it fun and inspire anyone to develop a love for learning Prealgebra.

Religion

As a Christian, who's been baptized into Christ as a college student, I've served as a Youth Minister for a local non-denominational church. I've attended Houston Christian Institute for study in Hermeneutics, Bible Interpretation and Homiletics, preaching. Also, I've done much self-study on the New Testament (Matthew - Revelation). If you want a Bible Study or just better understand the Bible, please, feel free to contact me.

SAT Math

The key to success in the math portion of SAT is knowledge and effectively preparing for the standardized multiple choice tests. Having successfully earning A's in all my math classes from middle school to high school and earning A's in Calculus 1, 2, & 3, Advanced Calculus, and Differential Equations 1 & 2, I have the knowledge. Scoring in the 96th percentile on the math portion of the SAT, I can help you. Also, I've developed a system in successfully passing any standardized tests, especially SAT math.

Soccer

Soccer is my first love as a sport. I started playing as a 4 year-old and enjoyed it as the only sport until high school. As I grew in height, I added Basketball to my first love of Soccer. My senior year in high school was the last time, I played soccer in an organized fashion, but always played in pick-up games.

Therefore, if you or your child is looking for someone to show them how to play the fundamentals of the game or need to keep him/her active in the backyard or a nearby field, then, I can help.

TAKS

As an educator with 7 years of experience in, TAKS, now STAAR, is a critical component for graduation requirements for public schools in the State of Texas. I've taught and tutored students in passing the math portions of TAKS test.

Over the years, I've developed a systematic approach to successfully passing standardized tests, such as TAKS/STAAR. Therefore, I will show you how to pass the math portion of the TAKS/STAAR, first time.

Tax Preparation

I have over 15 years of experience in income tax preparation. I've worked with one of the leading tax preparation companies, as a seasonal tax-preparer and plan to work with them for 2012 tax season.

Currently, I am updating my Income Tax Code knowledge for 2012 season by completing the 10 Continuing Education hours.
