G'day, I'm an Australian primary school teacher (Grades 1-7), currently living in Houston. I am also CELTA (Cambridge University) qualified to teach English as a Second Language. I believe that learning is an on-going, life-long adventure and am passionate about students receiving a holistic education. Therefore, my goal is to provide tutoring sessions that focus on academic, social and emotional needs of the individual. I believe in enabling my students to take risks with their learning, in a safe environment, so that they can build on their existing knowledge and improve their results. I look forward to sharing a learning journey with you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a fully qualified Primary School teacher - 4 year Degree (B.Ed - Primary). I have been teaching in Australia, at a Primary School (mainly grades 5-7, for general studies; and grades 1-7 for ESL studies). I also have a Cambridge University qualification to teach English as a Second Language.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL in a Primary School setting to students (Grades 1 - 7). Further, I have a qualification from Cambridge University to Teach English as a Second Language.

Phonics

I am a B.Ed qualified Primary Teacher, and ESL teacher. I have experience with teaching children how to improve their reading by understanding relationships between written letters and spoken sounds. I believe in using many meaningful activities to help students understand phonics, such as: songs/poems for rhyme and repetition to build phonemic awareness; "word families" to extend vocabulary; and language games to focus on specific letters and sounds. Learning phonics should be fun for every child.

Study Skills

I have spent many years studying academic and personal interest subjects. During that time I have developed strong study skills strategies - use of acronyms, mnemonics, pegwords, use of flashcards, timetabling, routines, use of rhyme, group collaboration, note-taking, exam preparation, etc. I would like to pass my experiences onto others to enable them to study more effectively and achieve results they seek.
