My name is Mary. I graduated from Western Governors University and this is my 8th year teaching. I am a Texas certified Special Education Teacher working with students from early childhood to high school. I also have a certification that allows me to teach in the general education classroom from EC – 8th grade. I have over ten year experience tutoring students from 1st grade all the way thought Algebra 2 and some Geometry. I also have experience working with students who are on the autism spectrum. I am currently working as a high school Math inclusion teacher, teaching Algebra 1, Geometry.

It is important that all students, no matter at what stage of development, learn how to use thinking skills to solve real world type problems. By developing these kinds of high order thinking skills, the student will have confidence and skills that will last a lifetime.

God makes each of us different so why do we expect that every student will learn at the same pace and in the same way? I am a strong advocate for differentiated learning. New material should be presented to the student in visual, audio and hands-on formats so that the student can grasp the material in the way that is most meaningful to him or her.

Every student has different levels of strength and weaknesses. I work on using the strength so that we, as a team, can overcome the weaknesses. I know that every student, no matter the challenges, can success.

I am also experienced in behavior modifications. I will work with the parents to help set up a study plan and a reward program that will help the child overcome any past habits that have lead to poor learning and study habits.

In addition, I have used ABA and other program to help students who have more intense problems.

Please contact me and we will talk about how I can help your student be successful.

"Dyslexia" is "failure to read or write, or read or write very well, not explained by low general intelligence." This means that the student that has dyslexia just need to be presented with a different way to learn to read and write. As a teacher I have to be flexible and try more than one method with a given student. This means that I will ,keep what helps and get rid of the things that don't help.
