I moved to Houston after graduating from college in 2010 to serve a year with Jesuit Volunteer Corps. I am now going back to university to prepare for graduate school applications, and am excited to get back into tutoring! While I studied musicology in undergrad, I am also currently preparing for the MCAT and GRE, and thus am willing and able to tutor in both the science/math and music realms. In the past when I tutored elementary school students, my style tended to be one of encouragement. My primary goal is to nurture a sense of accomplishment and pride in the student, so that they may eventually find themselves engrossed in their studies with little to no need for a tutor. In essence, I try to impart my own passion for learning on the student. Of course the strategy varies with each student: perhaps an athlete student would be better driven by competition, while an artsy child may enjoy discovering that mathematics can really be looked at like a beautiful foreign language.
Outside of math and science, I do also speak/write in German and Spanish and would of course enjoy tutoring in either of those subjects. I grew up speaking Spanish and took some Spanish Lit courses in college, and as for German I studied and worked in Austria for a year and then came back to college where I took a few more semesters of German lit courses.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you!
