I believe that to truly reach a student, a teacher must be passionate about what they are speaking on. That passion becomes infectious and will eventually inspire the student's own love of learning. As a tutor, I promise to bring that passion and my love of learning to every single session.
My love of learning began at a very early age and continued through high school. I graduated from Friendswood High School with Honors. I then took my passion to Texas A.M University where I obtained my B.S in Biomedical Science. My course load was heavy in all areas of science and I thrived on the challenge to prove myself academically.
After graduation, I moved back to Houston. I worked as a basic scientist in Urologic Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine for 4 years before leaving that position to obtain my dream job at the Houston Zoo. I now work as an Education Specialist at the Houston Zoo. The position allows me to combine my love for the natural world, my passion for conservation and my love of learning.
I am willing and able to tutor many different subjects including biology, chemistry, ecology, general science, math, reading comprehension and more. I have over 5 years of experience in informal education and tutoring.
Each and every single student I have is a unique individual who has unique learning needs. I take it upon myself to find out what teaching style works best for the student. I also aim to find what the student is passionate about and use that passion to create a bridge to the subject matter at hand. By forming these bonds and relating the material to the student's experiences, I find that the retention of the material goes far beyond passing the test and stays with the student long term.
