I grew up with EVERYONE saying I was strange, animated, hyper, never wanting to look at anyone. This really makes you stand out. You get lots of labels! But I always wanted to break the mold. When I teach, I help YOU break the mold. First, why should we all be crammed into a "round hole"? What's wrong with being a really talented "square peg"? And what's wrong with saying "learns in different ways" as opposed to "learning disabled"?
And what about what you see when you read? Or what you hear when someone speaks? Do they have your attention but you just don't get their intention? I am retired after 15 years as Dean of Education at a private special purpose school that made the learning experience as diverse in access as the learners in attendance. This means I really know kids are special and all have different learning styles. I have worked with them extensively in every subject and one-on-one. My talent lies in teaching how to express oneself in a respectful fashion. To know that you have choices and those choices have consequences. As a former animator, I teach all forms of art, including 2-Dimensional Animation and practice Art Therapy extensively. I am fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) and use it everyday as a teacher, tutor, mentor, counselor, and interpreter.
I continuously find helping others reach their full potential exciting and rewarding. I have an obsession with learning and have multiples higher level degrees with a specialization in Psychology and Diverse Learners. I use effective practices, strategies, and resources to inspire and enrich each student's learning. I can teach most subjects but, have taught reading, writing, English, ASL, History, Government, Psychology, Biology, and Sociology on both the high school and college levels. Many of my students are taking online courses with little or no instruction. I have a toolbox full of ways to help anyone learn and excel in their own unique fashion.
