Hello there! My name is Phillip L., and I am a math and science tutor in the Houston area. I have been providing tutoring for students of all ages for more than 4 years. I am also currently pursuing a Master's degree in counseling, an experience which has enhanced my expertise in building great relationships with my students. I have learned many things about effective tutoring relationships during my experience as a tutor and as a student of counseling including…
1. How to keep the tutoring session light, relaxed, and believe it or not, fun!
2. The relationship between myself and the student is just as important for reaching their academic goals as my knowledge of the subject matter.
3. Being flexible in my schedule and being willing to travel to you allows for students and their families to work with me at a time and place that works best for them.
4. Different students have different needs. Some of these needs include needing someone to talk to about the subject matter, needing help developing effective study skills, and/or needing a positive, supportive presence while completing schoolwork to help them build their confidence and self-esteem.
These are just a few of the many lessons I have learned. Despite its cliche nature, that old saying of "I think I learn even more from my students than they learn from me!" comes to mind.
I hope these few words have given you some idea of what sets me apart from other tutors and has inspired you to reach out to me to see if I will be a good fit for your student. Please feel free to send me an email through this web site if you have any questions or would like to speak with me further.
