WYZANT TOP 100 tutor for 2012!
Hi! My name is Cameron, and I love tutoring Math and Science! I am a Strake Jesuit College Prep grad, National Merit Scholar, and I studied Math at the US Air Force Academy, the University of St. Thomas in Houston, and the University of Houston. I have worked with dozens of students from the top Private schools in Houston, and I never get tired of seeing my students do better in school and get into the college of their choice!
When I was in high school I actually struggled with math like many students do, so I know what that feels like. But, when I was considering what to study in college, I decided to really challenge myself, and so I chose to study Mathematics! And the cool thing I found is that once I developed my skills, I actually enjoyed Math!
My unique perspective has allowed me to help the 50+ students that I have worked with to overcome their anxieties and confusion with math and science. I especially enjoy tutoring Algebra, Calculus, and Chemistry, and I am constantly being told by the students with whom I work that I explain things in a way that makes sense to them (even when their teacher can't!). I think this is because I had to teach myself math, that I know how to explain things to a student in a similar position as I was in. If you are interested in hearing more about my story, be sure to check out my blog or ask me - I am more than happy to share what I have learned.
I have worked with students of all backgrounds (private school, public, and Montessori), struggling students and exceptional ones who just need a study buddy, and even students with learning disabilities. So no matter what your learning style/situation is, I am confident that I can help.
Some examples of successes with past students:
3 St. Agnes students in Honors Chemistry - last semester had low C's, now 1 has an A and the other 2 girls have B+
1 student from Strake Jesuit - from making B's and C's on Algebra tests - now has an A in the class
A concerned mother came to me who wanted her son to be admitted to St. John's School but his ISEE math score was not high enough. I worked with him for 2 months, and he achieved a 9 (out of 10) on his ISEE math and was accepted to St. John's.
I assisted a female community college student with severe dyslexia and ADHD - had never been able to get above a C in a college course - I helped her to achieve all A's in her science courses and a B+ in her Psychology course.
Assisted a male college student (a 'C' student) to achieve an A in his Calculus course.
I worked with a female college student (with ADHD) with her Pathophysiology course, she now has an A and has, as a result, been admitted to nursing school. When we began working together her HESI score was below 60% and after working together for two months, she took the test again, and achieved an 83% - Her parents were so grateful and very proud of her (as was I !!)
This school year I am working with students at some Houston's top private schools including: St. John's, St. Agnes, Duchesne, Episcopal High School, Strake Jesuit and St. Thomas High School.
About me:
I started tutoring in college, and now that I am out of school, I continue to do what I love, which is to help struggling students overcome their academic difficulties and to help all students develop the practical learning skills they need to be successful in Life!
I also started for an educational software company with another expert tutor where we use our unique perspective on learning and education to create tools to help children learn to read effectively from a young age.
