As for my education and background, I have a master of science degree and have completed a teaching certification program. Although I have an M.S., my primary passion is language. I enjoy working with all age groups. I have worked with several ESL students, ranging from intermediate to advanced. In preparing my Iraqi student for the Test of English as a Foreign Language, we conversed for one hour, and I reviewed her writing for the second hour. Whether it's conversation or writing, I work hard to tailor my lessons to my student's interests and abilities.
I recently discovered advanced phonics for learning to read and spell 98 of English words. So far I have used it for an ESL student, but intensive phonics helps all English learners, including dyslexics.
I currently help a tenth-grader with English, AP history, and organizational skills. His mother is happy that he listens to me and concentrates on what he needs to do during the time that I spend with him. In addition, he feels better about himself for having made good headway on his work, and he follows through with his work on his own after I leave. Needless to say, his grades have improved.
