I am a professional musician with a Masters degree in Performance Music from the Moscow State Academy of Music and Performing Arts. I have achieved an extensive career with pop/jazz music in Russia and have dedicated my life to the music I love.
I emigrated to the United States in 1991 and have been teaching classical Piano and Saxophone ever since.
My journeys have taken me through various genres of music and have helped me to develop the ability to work with students of all ages and skill sets.
I have over 20 years of teaching experience, and over 30 years experience in music theory and performance. I am currently performing with the John Wolfskill Jazz Ensemble and Saxophone group, the Sparky Koerner Jazz Ensemble and the Billie Ledbetter Orchestra. My primary objective is to focus the lessons around the student's needs. Whether it be technique, training in music theory, or just the basic fundamentals, I take the time to provide each student with a highly personalized approach tailored to their current skills and goals.
The distinguishing quality of a good music teacher is being able to come to the level of your students and challenge them to achieve that 'next step'. I strive to leave my students with a sense of progress and direction after every lesson. This encourages the student to harness his/her talent and maintain interest in their music abilities.
I maintain a very interactive approach to teaching. My lessons are hands-on practice rather than instruction and engage the student to lead rather than to follow.
I use etude and method books, as well as the technical scales and chord progression memorization for the advancement of students. Once a student has mastered the basics, I begin discussion of repertoire selection and performance techniques.
The most important deciding factor of success with music is an actively engaged student. I strive first and foremost to keep the student involved in the music they play. There are no boring lessons with me!
