Greetings! I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (minor in Spanish) as well as an M.L.S., Masters of Library Science degree from Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas. I have worked 20 plus years in public libraries (Houston Public Library, almost 16 years, and City of League City Library, 11 years). I have provided reference service to all ages during these years. In addition, as recently as 2007, I have completed the College of the Mainland Alternative Education Program aka P.A.C.T., except for my required one year of internship as a Teacher-of-Record. I passed the courses in the top of my class.
In the interim, I substituted at the CCISD, Clear Creek ISD, elementary schools (Kindergarten through Grade 5) for an entire Fall and Spring session, using the AESOP online system to acquire substitute jobs on a daily basis. I worked in 18 different elementary schools of the CCISD, assuming the responsibilities of the teacher in different grades and schools for five days a week (Kindergarten through Grade 5, Special Ed, Resource Teacher, Music Teacher for all grades once, Drama Teacher for all grades once, and Science Teacher for all classes twice). The highest grade that I taught in CCISD was 5th grade.
I have always helped all ages learn better by providing personal reference services to the public. I am known for my organizational ability, my creativity in developing programs for children, and my sense of humor. In some of the CCISD elementary schools, I have worked with mainstreamed students in their group classes, observing their interactions and helping them reach out to other classmates for assistance or for sharing of their knowledge. I welcome the opportunity to help your children, tweens, teens, and young adults succeed in their individual and intrapersonal/interpersonal goals. I also believe that some children need positive, supportive mentors like me in order to succeed in our multinational, global economy.
I can help ESL learners of all ages, GED test-takers, college students, elementary school and SAT or ACT preparation students. I have also helped 9th and 10th graders with their TEKS Buen Viaje Spanish textbooks, introducing verb conjugations along with popular words. I am interested in having Spanish learners write simple prose or poetry as well as study Spanish fiction and nonfiction works. In my last two years with Wyzant, I have been privileged to help adult as well as college-level students succeed in their public speaking efforts.
Informing me ahead of time about your individual needs will afford me the opportunity to organize your sessions effectively. I also would love to help you succeed in other subjects like social studies, government, history, creative writing, philosophy, or science when you need to write essays, poetry, or research papers, providing you with interpersonal editing assistance. I do not tutor in math and science beyond fourth grade, since these subjects are now taught in different ways which I have found, personally, to be more confusing than logical.
Tutoring different ages is challenging and rewarding. I coach my clientele in area public libraries, like Pasadena Public, Freeman Public, Alvin Public, Pearland Public, and Friendswood Public on a year-long basis. I can also tutor select clients who live in Galveston County at the College of the Mainland Library as well as the Moore Memorial Library in Texas City should the need arise.
