Semi retired special education, social studies &science teacher

I have twenty-two years of public school teaching experience. I have taught in elementary, middle school and high school classrooms in Washington state, El Paso, Texas and DFW, Texas. The majority of my students have had some type of special needs but I have worked in general classroom also both as an inclusion teacher and classroom teacher. I also have seven years of experience as a proctor and reader of the SAT and ACT for high school students.

I have three children of my own: a college graduate, a junior in college and a current graduating high school senior. My youngest has ADD so I understand the challenges as a teacher and parent of a bright student who has trouble in the classroom.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified K-12 special education teacher. I have 7 years of elementary school teaching experience and 4 years of substitute experience

Phonics

I am a certified k-12 special needs teacher with 6 years of elementary resource room reading experience. The two subjects that I taught in the resource room were reading and math.
I have had numerous college courses on how to teach reading with phonics.

Study Skills

I have 7 years of content mastery experience at the high school level and 6 years of resource room experience at the elementary level. Both of these assignments include teaching study skills to students.

Special Needs

I am a certified in two states as a special education teacher. I have worked with special needs students directly for 14 years and indirectly for 22 years. I ran a elementary resource for 6 years.
I was a high school content mastery/inclusion teacher for 7 years. I taught in an ESL classroom for 2 years.

ESL/ESOL

I taught ESL/ESOL in a secondary setting for two years.
I took 10 college credit hours in ESL teaching.
Many of the techniques used in special needs training/teaching are also used with the English as a second language learner.
My husband's first language was Spanish and I helped him graduate an English speaking university.

Sewing

I have a BA in education with a major in home ecomonics. I have been sewing personally for 50 years.
When my children were small, I made some of their clothes and most of mine.
I have also done tailoring and alterations for years.
Plus, many types of home furnishings.

ADD/ADHD

I am a certified special education K-12 teacher with 22 years of teaching experience twelve of which were working with many ADD/ADHD students. Part of the training/classes for a special education is working with students who have ADD/ADHD. I have also taken numerous professional development classes on the special needs of ADD/ADHD students.

Dyslexia

I am a certified special education K-12 teacher with 14 years of experience working with students with dyslexia. I have had numerous courses on techniques to help the dyslexic student. I have had at least 10 college hours of teaching reading coursework. I spent two years tutoring dyslexic students.

Sociology

I am a certified social studies composite teacher which includes sociology in two states. I have taught social studies for 6 years. I took 15 college hours in the field as a undergraduate.

TAKS

I have proctored the TAKS test in both elementary and secondary schools. I have served on two state TAKS committees helping to write science TAKS questions. I have provided numerous TAKS practice classes for students.

Social Studies

I am certified in Washington state and Texas to teach social studies in the secondary classroom. I have over 30 college credits in the field. I taught 6 years of social studies in the public schools. I spent 3 years writing the social studies curriculum for the El Paso ISD. I trained teachers on how to teach the above curriculum to the El Pasoisd teachers.
