I am recently retired from all levels of education for 43 years. I developed and taught in the Developmental Studies departments of several DCCCD colleges (reading, writing, study skills, English skills, and ESL). During this time, I also was a tennis coach and played volleyball up until just a few years ago. I am available to teach in a one-on-one tutoring situation, small group situation, and computer assisted learning.
One of my passions has been to see students succeed. Because of that, all of my degrees have specific courses designed to help a student learn the subject, as I feel that students will come to the study table more easily if they have tools to complete goals and objectives set in order to see their progress. If a student keeps running into the wall without tools to take it down, the student will close the door even if parents, peers, and others continue to put pressure to be a good student. Therefore, I have spent my working life preparing students to learn.
Being a past president and holding other offices in the College Learning Association, National Council of Teachers of English, Texas Association of Reading, and Texas Learning and Reading Association, I have learned from some of the top educators about how to help students move through their goals. Because of my studies, my teaching, and my passion, students should be able to use some of the items I have to offer to hit their learning goals.
