I am a Master Reading Teacher certified by the State of Texas. I have 7 years experience teaching reading to students with learning disabilities and dyslexia. A great day is recognizing the small milestones that took hard work to achieve.

My certifications also includes Special Education in grades EC-12, English as Second Language in grades EC-12 and Gifted and Talented in grades EC-12. All these certifications have one thing in common ... it requires the teacher to understand the neurological aspects of the brain that interferes with a student obtaining proficiency at the rate of their peers.

With extensive staff development and educational training I have that knowledge along with the experience to evaluate the best way the student can learn in order to maximize progress. Furthermore and most of all -- I can develop a remedial plan that will let the student achieve success --- which in turn, makes him/her feel encouraged and motivated to push on through the hard work.

Vocabulary

With certifications for Master Reading teacher and English as Second Language, I have over 200 staff development hours to aid me in designing and implementing interventions to help student build a stronger vocabulary, which in turn improves their comprehension of text.

Reading

I am a Master Reading teacher certified by the state of Texas to assess and evaluate struggling readers, I am trained to design individual or small group intervention plans, as well as, create specific remediation goals and objectives tailored to the needs and learning style of the student.
I am also very familiar with determining adequate and appropriate accommodations and modifications for grade level curriculum.

Writing

As a special education teacher, I have thorough knowledge and experience in building a foundation for writing with elementary age students. Writing can be broken down into the simplest form required and scaffold the task and students masters each skill.
I have worked 5 years with 4th grader special ed students who needed to develop and/ or improve writing skills for the 4th writing state assessment.

English

I am certified by the state of Texas as master reading teacher, as well as English as second language. These two certifications give me a strong understanding of the break down of the English language for spelling, writing and comprehension. As a teacher of special education students I was required to find many different avenues to present skills in a very user friendly manner that could allow students with different learning styles to master.

ASVAB

I have taken and passed the WyzAnt general test with 100% correct that measures eligibility to teach ASVAB.
Have taken 6 exams by the state of Texas that certifies me to teach in specialized areas. Very knowledgeable of study skills for high-stakes testing.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified with Generalist in grades EC.4, Special Education EC-12, Master Reading Teacher EC-12 and have 7 years experience teaching elementary students kinder through 5th grade with reading disabilities and learning differences.

Phonics

I am certified by the state of Texas with a Master Reading Certification for grades EC-12 and Special Education for grades EC-12.

Dyslexia

I am certified by the State of Texas with a Master Reading Certification for grades EC-12, and Special Education for Grades EC-12. I have taught students identified with dyslexia or specific learning disabilities for 7 years. I have extensive training in multi-sensory techniques for dyslexia. I am trained in the Wilson Reading and Wilson Fundations language program to help with struggling readers through the Orton-Gillingham approach.

TAKS

I taught special education for 7 years and was responsible for breaking down the test subject into a method of presentation that students performing below grade level could understand. Also planned and prepared students to use specific strategies to accommodate their learning disability to better remember steps during test taking. Developed intense and accelerated lessons plans for short remediation periods if students were scheduled to retake exam after not passing initial testing period.
