I have been working as a professional seamstress and Costume Designer for the past 13+ years. I moved to Dallas a year ago, having lived and worked in multiple cities such as Chicago, New York, and Charlotte. I started my career as a seamstress with American Girl Place. I was the Wardrobe Supervisor for a full-length Broadway style musical starring upwards of 80 girls and 8 adult actors. Although it was not part of the job description, I and the rest of the backstage staff took it upon ourselves to train the girls to be young professionals both onstage and off. I love working with children and quite enjoy passing on my knowledge of sewing to them. Most recently, in Charlotte, NC, I was given the opportunity to teach a sewing class to adults as well as children. We took on the task of creating Memory Quilts. This is a project that I love because it allows the students to work with fabrics that are near and dear to their hearts and gives them an automatic connection to the quilt that they are making. We gathered old t-shirts, baby clothes, and any other bits of fabric memorabilia; cut them up and turned them into a keep-sake that would be in the family for years to come. I prefer to follow the student and find out what they would like to get out of my lessons and then tailor my class to suit their needs. I look forward to teaching more students how to sew.
