I usually use the Socratic Method as a means of a deeper analysis of the subject matter and therefore a more complete understanding. Recent students of Galveston College who took advantage of the tutoring center will already know me as the math/science/accounting/English/philosophy and many other subjects tutor. The Socratic Method is a "guided question" methodology that allows students to see how a problem is solved rather then just mindlessly applying a formula without a conceptual understanding of the problem.
A lot of students have difficulties with math and the math found in other subjects such as physics. Math is an interesting subject with a myriad of techniques for finding an answer. Math is progressive, that is one needs to have a firm grasp on previous math instruction in order to progress successfully in later math courses. This is especially true of calculus and its foundation of algebra. For instance, if one has a complicated fraction, it may be nearly impossible to find its integral without the algebraic construct of partial fractions and / or trigonometric substitution.
Remember that a strong foundation makes for a sturdy house.
I have 8+ years in bookkeeping experience and oversaw the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and general ledger data entry. Being meticulous with numbers is a must for those that wish to embark on a career in accounting and or economics.
I have a wide knowledge of computers and have been a free lance computer repair technician since 1990. Obviously no one can know everything about computers (as evidenced by the esoteric questions that I got wrong on the General Computer test) but I do know where to look up information and make use of the data found. This was not allowed on this particular test.
I recently acquired my A+ certification (8/28/2012) by Comptia (code available upon request).
On time and patient — Jay is highly educated and professional with a great deal of patience. After speaking with Jay and reading his notes, it was clear that my daughter needs a teacher that can start over in physics and teach her the basics versus a tutor who helps her understand the current assignments. He returns emails and text messages promptly! ...
