I am a private lesson teacher and tutor specializing in Music History, Theory, Ear Training, and Voice. I also tutor Math and English/Reading for Elementary, along with pre-algebra and Algebra 1. I have a B.A. Degree in Liberal Arts, with an emphasis on Music and Education. I have been teaching private lessons to all ages for 5 years now from my home studio.

I strive to meet the unique needs of each student, working with them to find the best way for them to learn individually. My goal is for you to both succeed, and gain confidence in your abilities as an individual student.

I try to teach students through hands on experience, with varied approaches to the same topic so as to help them create "connections", which will spark their own creativity and ability.

Aside from k-12 and adult teaching, I am also certified with MusikGarten to teach music and musical values to all preschool ages, from newborn-8.

I love teaching, and love creating a fun learning environment for all of my students. Please contact me, and we can start you on the road to learning and success in your subject!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have always had a love for Algebra, and try to impart that to those that I work with. I believe that if you can help someone understand the foundation for Algebra, as well as its practical value, then it can be a great learning experience for all, and set the student up to excel in other higher level math subjects. I work with each of my students on their individual needs, and will patiently work with you until you feel comfortable with working out algebra on your own.

Algebra 2

I have always had a love for algebra and try to impart that to those that I work with. I believe that if you can help someone understand the foundation for algebra, as well as its practical value, then it can be a great learning experience for all and set the student up to excel in other higher level math subjects. I work with each of my students on their individual needs, and will patiently work with you until you feel comfortable with working out algebra on your own. In algebra 2, I work to make sure that each student I work with has the foundation they need from algebra 1, and then give them the skills to apply that easily to what they are learning in algebra 2.

Composition (Music)

I am a private music lesson teacher in piano, voice, theory, and composition. I graduated from Texas Woman's University with a bachelor's degree in music. I have taught privately for 6 years, and work with my students regularly to improve composition skills.

Ear Training

I have a B.A. in Music/Liberal Arts from Texas Womans University, and have been a professional singer for 5 years now. I took extensive ear training courses in my University coursework, and have 5 years of experience working with singers of all ages to teach sight-singing and ear training. I use a variety of teaching tools, from the piano to computer programs, and am willing to work with students of any experience level.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary learning is the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Working with students to see the connections between the different subjects they are learning, and helping them to fully understand and value that knowledge, all while having a great amount of fun, is my goal. I have worked with students from preschool and on in a variety of subjects and formats. With a minor in education from TWU, I possess the skills needed to help the elementary learner build their foundation for a lifelong love and confidence in learning. I am comfortable in all elementary subjects, including math, language arts, reading, English, social studies, and science.

Elementary Math

Math is a passion of mine, from early arithmetic to calculus. I love working with young students to grow a love for learning and math, as well as to teach them that it has a practical application in their life. In Elementary Math, I work to give students a mathematical foundation of concepts they will use through their education and lives. My goal is for your student to move confidently in to higher level math with a firm foundation in core concepts.

General Music

I have a B.A. In Music and Liberal Arts, with a focus in voice and music education for K-12. I recently obtained certification through MusikGarten to teach ages newborn-8 as well, in general music and piano. I will work with your students to teach the building blocks music is based on, and show them how all of those create the music we make and listen to today. Students will learn rhythm, reading, ear-training, and basic music theory in a practical application with music literacy as the goal.

Music History

I graduated from TWU with a B.S. in Liberal Arts-Music in 2009, and have been teaching private music lessons for the past 5 years. I received a 4.0 grade credit in Music History, and continue to learn in my own time to better teach all of my students. I will work with you to connect the history to the music you know, and provide you a foundation of knowledge to help you succeed in music history.

Photography

I have been a photographer/photography instructor for many years, working with all levels of students, from turning the camera on, to creating artistically composed photos in multiple settings. I have shot portraits, engagement photos, and weddings. I have worked as a freelance photographer taking architectural shots for a construction company. My main love in photography is nature and landscape, and creating engaging visual effects at the camera or the computer. I am happy to help you reach your goals as a photographer, from taking better family shots to shooting a wedding or event.

Piano

I have been teaching private piano lessons for 6 years, and have been playing piano myself for 20. I graduated from TWU with honors in Music, and hold a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis in music education. I am also certified in MusikGarten, which focuses on piano and music competency for ages 0-8. I teach all ages, and work to teach literacy in music reading and expression across multiple genres.

Prealgebra

I have always had a love for Algebra, and try to impart that to those that I work with. I believe that if you can help someone understand the foundation for Algebra, as well as its practical value, then it can be a great learning experience for all, and set the student up to excel in other higher level math subjects. In prealgebra, I strive to work with my students to make sure they have all of the concepts they will need to move into upper level math, and are confident in using the knowledge they gained in basic math within the new concepts they will be learning as they move into algebra. My goal is to make prealgebra a confident, fun, learning experience, not a chore.

Reading

Reading is one of the pillars of a lifelong love of learning in all subjects. I work with students to define their individual needs, and teach comprehension techniques, as well as build a love for reading that will carry them into their future education, and hopefully create a love for continuous learning throughout their lives.

Sight Singing

I have a B.A. in Music/Liberal Arts from Texas Womans University, and have been a professional singer for 5 years now. I took extensive ear training courses in my University coursework, and have 5 years of experience working with singers of all ages to teach sight-singing and ear training. I use sight singing in my every day work, and have successfully helped students reach their goals, ranging from being able to read music for church choir, to advancing in competitions with a sight singing portion. I use a variety of teaching tools, from the piano to computer programs, and am willing to work with students of any experience level. I strive in all of my teaching to tailor my lessons to each individual student.

Study Skills

I am an honors graduate from Texas Woman's University, with a B.A. in music and liberal arts. I have been a successful, organized student throughout my education, and have had to learn in many different settings and environments, from a number of different teaching styles. I would love to help you or your student find successful techniques for studying and succeeding in school. My goal is to make you a confident learner, who feels they are able to succeed in any learning environment.

Voice (Music)

I have been teaching voice to ages 8 and up for 5 years. I specialize in Broadway/classical music. I focus on building good core techniques and skills that my students will be able to take into any genre of music they choose to study. Lessons will be tailored to the goals and wants of each student in their vocal career.

(-1)-(-5)=? (answer)

Remember that "minus a negative" turns into "plus a positive".  So any time you see two negative signs next to each other, turn them both to positive.  Thus you get (-1)+(5)=4

Could not ask for more! Awesome! — Megan was awesome. I thought I could do an online algebra class by myself. I had homework due the next day and a test a few days later and did not understand a thing! She responed within a few hours of me contacting her and was tutoring me that night. I was stressed and frazzled to say the least and she was so calm about everything. She was very professional and worked around my schedule very well ...
