English Language and Literary Extravaganza

I am a certified English teacher who teaches English as a Second Language at a high school. My work extends beyond this job into tutoring, which I love. I have taught and tutored for years, and I love what I do. I like getting to know my students to find out their learning styles and goals, as well as to help them appreciate the advantage of a lifelong love of learning. My work involves everything related to the English language, from its foundation, history, and morphological breakdown, to literary analysis, interpretation, and writing. I serve my students to help them become not just better at a language, but more cognizant of the beauty and usefulness of linguistics.

Vocabulary

Students will learn the foundations of English vocabulary, from the roots to prefixes and suffixes, understanding how words are formed, spelled, and pronounced in English. Students will attain a higher level of vocabulary, and will be able to speak, read, write, and listen to words at an advanced academic level.

Grammar

Students will learn English language grammar, including syntax, morphology, and the roots of the language, such as Greek and Latin.

Reading

Students will learn reading strategies, comprehension skills, and the ability to read more accurately and efficiently. Another goal of this course is to teach students how to find something they love to read, and to learn how to love reading in general.

Writing

Students will learn how to write for a variety of audiences and purposes, including the use of appropriate structure, language, and citation, when necessary. In writing, other areas of the language will be stressed as well, such as grammar, vocabulary, and a general understanding of the topic discussed.

English

The student will be taught anything (and maybe everything) about the English language and how it is used academically and socially. This may include anything from grammar foundations to high-level literature. This broad subject can encompass all areas of study with the English language.

ESL/ESOL

This subject is for students who are learning English as their second (or possibly 3rd, 4th, etc.) language. From beginner to advanced, students will be able to use English in social and academic situations, as I adjust the curriculum to meet their specific goals and needs.

Literature

Students will learn how to analyze and interpret (read, write, and speak about) literature from basic to advanced levels. This also includes metacognition and philosophical knowledge.

Proofreading

This subject teaches how to look at various types of written material, understanding the grammar, structure, and content of texts.
