So, you’re probably wondering who am I? What makes me unique…well, let me tell you. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I graduated from LV Hightower High School, June 2008, in Fort Bend ISD. I am currently a student at Texas Woman’s University pursing a Bachelors in Science degree in Mathematics, seeking teacher certification grades 4-8. Ideally, I would like to work with middle school students (6th – 8th grade). Growing up, I have always loved working with children. In school, I observed my peers would always complain in math class because they did not understand the material. I felt obligated to help my classmates since math made sense to me. In seventh grade, my teacher told me that ”smart kids understand math.” That was motivation for me, and will be inspiration in my classroom. My goal is to encourage and give all students the support so that they feel confident that they CAN do it!
My love for kids and education doesn’t end there. Throughout my college years, I have been involved in several organizations and gained great career experience. I currently serve as a private tutor for a 9th grade girl, and work as a summer intern for Katy ISD. I am partnered with an experienced teacher and we "team teach" 6th grade math ESOL (english as a second or other language) students. As a Pace mentor, college students are paired with middle school aged students. We met with them once a week for lunch, discuss their school progress, and their interest.
My teaching/tutoring style is designed to cater to the individual needs of the student. I strive to make learning fun and interactive. The first meeting will be a get-to-know session and assess what areas you want to cover. From there, it is my responsibility to comprise lessons that fit those needs. With the aid of books I have collected in college, and other resources, I will try my best to make sure students are grasping math concepts, understanding principles, and building academic and personal confidence in the meantime.
I love math, helping others, and I believe my professionalism mixed with my personality will make me a great candidate to be your tutor!
