I have taught for over 15 years and worked in education for more than 17 years. I am passionate about education and love to help people succeed. My experience is that people know much more than they think they do! I like to help students realize that and progress in their studies.

There are many different types of learners who have varied styles of organization and processing information. It takes work and practice for each individual to understand what works for them. I enjoy helping students through this process.

Additionally, I firmly believe that a little studying everyday prepares students better for assessments and helps them to understand what they need to refine to achieve their learning/educational goals. Cramming can only provide temporary positive results.

I have a degree with a focus in Secondary Education. Part of that degree includes studying and understanding the learning process and child psychology. I have a university education that taught us about ADD/ADHD and I have first-hand experience of 15 years educating students that have ADD and ADHD, both in the classroom setting and one-on-one.

Through my teaching experiences I have worked with self-contained and mainstream students who have Asperger's. I also have friends with Asperger's and am very familiar with the need for patience, understanding, and taking advantage of teachable moments that are ever-present with people that have Asperger's. It is imperative to keep in mind that they have Asperger's, not that it has them; we need to work to help them utilize their strengths.

I really enjoy English grammar, literature, and conversation. I took 39 hours of English classes as an Undergrad and have a B.A. in English with a focus in Secondary Education. I have experience teaching English to native speakers, non-native speakers, adults, and kids.

I have taught English abroad and to people from Japan, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Puerto Rico, the Middle East, and the United States. I have taught students ranging from 10 to 65. I enjoy working with a wide range of people.

Public Speaking

I have taken public speaking in high school and university. Also, I took debate and was in theater classes throughout advanced studies (middle school through university).

Sign Language

I have taken 3 Continuing Education courses in Signed English. I used to interpret for my instructor in church. I have kept up my practice!

I love teaching Spanish and have taught it to adults and teenagers since 1998. I have lived and studied as an Undergrad and Grad in Spanish-speaking countries. I have taught grammar, culture, reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills throughout my career. It's what I love to do most!!!

Study Skills

I have worked as an Orientation Guide, assisting students with learning 'the ropes' which included study skills and scheduling. As a teacher I have attended workshops on teaching study skills. Also as a teacher, I have been an advisor who teaches and reviews study skills with students.
