I have experience in tutoring students in biology and biology related fields in a variety of age groups from my four year old stepson to senior level undergraduate students. My fiance is also a teacher and I've learned a great deal in how to relate complex concepts to almost any age group while providing a positive learning environment. I've found that explaining the "why" is as important as getting to the correct answer because all biology courses build upon each other. If you fail to grasp the why now, it's only going to be that much harder down the road.
That said, you may only need to get the basic answer now and I'll be more than willing to tailor my approach to what your immediate needs are at this time.
My educational background includes research experience in a structured laboratory setting and my own personal shark biology research that was funded by Texas State University. I've also participated in research projects/learning sessions at University of Texas Marine Science Institute, University of Miami's Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, and in cooperation with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. I've been a teaching assistant at Texas State for a botany course, and I was hired as a teaching assistant for ecology and oceanology before the Science Department changed their criteria to master's students only filling those positions.
If you're looking for the dry, boring biology teacher in a tweed suit with elbow patches, move along because I'm not that personality type. I'm engaging, funny, and try to bring excitement to my subject matter as I'm excited about helping students find understanding. Besides, I look horrible in tweed.
