I tutored at a small college in Florida from 2003 to 2010. I also taught for three years at a university in Oklahoma. I also taught English as a Second Language and Adult Education for three years, and English Composition I and II at this small college in Florida for 6 years, for a combined total of effective tutoring and teaching of ten years in institutions of higher learning.
I can help students from second grade to university level. Teaching is a passion, not a job! If any student intending on becoming a teacher is in it for the money, he or she is in the wrong business. A student HAS to love teaching to be a good teacher! There are endless hours of grading papers, tutoring students, organizing events in and out of the classroom, and sometimes, lending a compassionate ear to a student who is overwhelmed by everything given to them in the world of academia. The teacher-tutor must attend to the needs of a group of students with special care. Each student must be treated with respect.
I enjoy tutoring students, and I believe that enjoyment is reflected in the number of students who stated I was the "best teacher" they ever had. I make certain the student is understanding the lessons, not just entering information to be expunged the moment the exam is ended. I utilize the Socratic method of teaching in the classroom as part of the teaching-learning dynamics, and in a tutoring session, while I am all business, I believe the student and the tutor should develop a good rapport and some laughter is not unusual because I know students learn and retain more when they are having fun. I also utilize the SQ3R method with students in order to help their study skills and to help improve their grades.
For young students, learning about the properties of nouns and verbs can be overwhelming, but the SQ3R method helps the student to learn more and remember more. Adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns are frightening to many grown-ups, much less grade-school students, but with SQ3R studying habits, these problems turn into easily-recognizable entities that no longer bother the student.
Regarding reading and finding main ideas and supporting details, the younger student needs to become very comfortable with finding these areas, and the student needs to learn how to put ideas onto paper without struggling to construct a topic sentence and provide supporting details in a paragraph. For older students, discussing noun, adjectival, and adverbial clauses is usually no laughing matter, but with a smile, these topics become less intimidating, and repetitive questions makes these clauses actually easy to recognize. During a class, many of my tutees (students) become leaders of group exercises because they know the subject matter, and their grades improve, some even love learning a new subject.
I love teaching and tutoring with a passion. I love to "pay it forward" by tutoring students. I am exuberant and energized when I teach and tutor. I am a nurturer who is effective and tireless in bringing a student to understanding the topic, and usually, the student becomes comfortable with the subject.
Children in the public school system need a quality education, and sometimes it is up to the tutors to help that child learn. Teachers may have too many students to help each one individually, and there is not enough time in the day to do this. Being a compassionate and supportive tutor may make the difference to many students who need a little extra help.

Utilizing the CLAST (College Level Academic Skills Test) enables students nation-wide to be on the same level of expertise as other students in a particular subject.
