While earning my BA in English, I worked as a writing tutor at the UTA Writing Center and continued in this position during my first year as an MA student. My goal as a writing tutor is to empower student writers via the preferred nondirective tutoring method. Though we address sentence level issues such as grammar, punctuation, and syntax, we tend to focus on higher level issues such as cohesion, clarity, and flow. Furthermore, establishing an individualized writing process serves to improve critical thinking and communication skills which benefit writers of all disciplines. Improving upon these higher level concerns reduces writing anxiety and contributes to academic success.
