As a tutor, it is my desire to assist students in learning the material, as well as, improving their skills at learning, problem-solving and setting goals. Working at the student’s pace, I hope to help them achieve a sense of accomplishment, a more positive attitude towards learning, and confidence in their own intellectual abilities.
I have experience working with middle and high school students in the SES “No Child Left Behind” program tutoring students in a variety of subjects, primarily math and study habits. My experience also includes teaching high school students the fundamentals of writing persuasive, descriptive, and instructive papers, as well as fiction.
In addition, I have the ability to understand the struggles that many of the students encounter in their academic life. As a person with Asperger’s Syndrome, learning to deal with developmental disabilities has taught me to relate to people who struggle with learning, working to convert weaknesses into strengths. I look forward to assisting the students I work with in doing the same.
I believe that my greatest tutoring skill is the ability to explain the material in a way that makes sense to the student.
