Hello -or- Hola...as we say in Spanish. My name is Terri; although my students can call me Señora "B". I love the Spanish language and earned my Bachelor Degree in Spanish from the University of Texas at Tyler. I have traveled to Costa Rica and Mexico several times and briefly attended the University Internacional in Cuernavaca, Mexico to enhance my Spanish. I enjoy speaking, reading and writing Spanish and I have tutored my own children and 2 of my 3 children earned degrees in Spanish; my son is a Spanish teacher in Texas and one of my daughters is an ESL/Spanish teacher in Costa Rica.

I like using flash cards, games, songs, magazines, newspapers and real life experiences when teaching Spanish and have recently incorporated Blane Ray's easy readers and novels as part of my tutoring resources. I prefer working with students in grades 6-12.

Even though I live in Flint, I work in Tyler and will tutor in Tyler and the surrounding areas. I'm even open to tutoring via internet - lots of students prefer using the internet; however, this method of tutoring can be somewhat restrictive.

I hope I can help you and your student meet the challenge of learning a new language. After all, learning Spanish Is Easier Than You Think!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have always enjoyed the challenges of Algebra and would love the opportunity to help a student learn the basics so they can advance through the higher levels of Algebra.

Bible Studies

I have taken several Theology and Scripture courses through the University of Dallas and the Diocese of Tyler. I currently teach the Synoptic Gospels and the book of Acts. I have an advanced catechist (religion teacher) certification through the Dicoese of Tyler.

Business

My husband and I owned a dry cleaning business for 15 years. We had a production plant with 8 drop stores. I managed 40+ employees, did A/R and A/P, Payroll and Full Charge Bookkeeping. I helped with advertising, site selection and government regulation compliance. I wrote training manuals, interviewed potential employees and was responsible for records management.

ESL/ESOL

I have a Minor in ESL and have taught ESL for the local Literacy Council. I also taught ESL citizenship classes for those interested in taking the citizenship test.

Proofreading

As a translator, administrative assistant and department coordinator, I have proofread scholarship essays, witness testimony, professional documents and letters.

Spanish

I graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler in December 2007 with a Bachelor Degree in Spanish and a minor in ESL. I currently use my Spanish skills to translate letters and forms from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.

I have always enjoyed the Spanish language and like sharing my knowledge with others.

Theatre

I have an Associate Degree in Theatre Arts and have performed in several plays and musicals. I have performed with Tyler Civic Theater, Blytheville Little Theater in Arkansas and Tyler Junior College. I have co-directed, designed costumes and procured props and set arrangements.
