I am an artist who loves what I do and loves to share art with everyone around me. Art is such an amazing world to open your eyes to more than just art, but the world around us. It stretches your mind and helps you see the world around you in colors you never imagined before! Studying art helps round out your mind to experience life with new opportunities. Opening the creative side of your mind helps you in the problem solving world to find creative alternatives and answers.
I have my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, specifically in studio art with a concentration in sculpture, from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado. With the degree, all students had to study art history immensely and I have been helping friends study art history ever since I got into it at 17. I love making art a fun subject that anyone can learn. I have taught a summer art class for kids ages 4-12.
Also, I have guest taught a high school art class when I lived abroad in Stockholm, Sweden. My method is to get the class or student involved in the discussion- I don't want to do all the talking. I want to have a conversation with the students while we learn and work on our skills in art and the history behind it. I believe the more the student is involved the more they will retain.
In studying studio art, I believe in taking the essence of a still life or landscape and finding the importance behind it to put that into the painting, drawing, photograph, etc. The essence of an image can be the light in the picture, or the contrast of a bright color in the distance, whatever catches the artists eye and says "this is important to record in a piece of art."
I believe we are all born with our own styles and voices and that a child should be able to learn and express in their own unique way. Everyone learns differently and I want to find that specific avenue for you and help you to learn in your own way. The main thing is that the student is the focus- you guys are the ones learning and working and absorbing information and ideas and I am just a guide helping along the way.
Thank you for looking and for your consideration! Have a colorful day!
