I have been working in the area of education for 19 years and neuroscience research for 10 years. Over the years my goal has been to establish positive interactions with students and parents. It is critical to be positive in relating to others. It is also important to have a good sense of humor in life. It is easier to learn if one has fun in the process! I have found that to be true in raising and teaching my daughter, Noelle. Noelle is autistic and has been a blessing in my life. I strive to teach young people just like they were my own son or daughter.
I individualize my tutoring methods according to the student's learning style. An approach which taps into all the senses is a very effective way to reach most learners. Another key in learning is motivation. I have found that a positive approach works the best in fostering motivation. Repetition is a critical factor in learning. In my years in education and research I have found it is best to break a skill in to segments and to practice learning the segments multiple times. It is best to master one segment in the learning chain before moving to the next learning segment.
