I have been teaching music for the last 5 years and really enjoy seeing students learn and be able to play their guitars, mandolins, and fiddles. One thing about teaching is being able to motivate them to learn by having fun while they are learning.
I have been playing music for more than 40 years and have played in many venues in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. I have enjoyed my time playing these venues but now I concentrate on teaching others how to bring the joy of music into others' lives.
One of the things that I have found out is that most people want to be able to play immediately and that is one of the things that I make sure of on guitar or mandolin. That you can play a song the first lesson that you take. A very simple song, but never the less, it's an accomplishment that can be seen right off of the bat. It will give you the desire to learn more each time you learn something new!
I teach one on one and use different methods to instill the knowledge that they receive in class. The students can go to my website and log-in to the student area and view the lesson videos that are online, many of which are what they learned in class. And the video section is updated weekly. Also included are backing tracks and the music PDFs as well. It helps the students to remember what we did in class.
It is important for the student to enjoy class and also to have fun but more important is the need to do something at home with what you have learned. Practice and play time are very vital to the student for reinforcing the lesson given.
I also take the students that have learned to play as beginners to venues to play together with other students. I take a group of students to the local nursing homes and we play to them for 30 minutes or so. It helps the student to learn to play with other musicians, and have a blast at playing out live and receive the recognition of being up on stage!
So if you are looking for a patient, humble teacher, I am the choice for you!
