I have been teaching ESL to adults and children for over 5 years in both private and classroom instruction. I believe in setting goals and creating personalized lesson plans around them to measure progress and to maximize our time together. I personally have studied Korean, French, Russian and German, so I understand firsthand the difficulties of learning a new language. I make lessons engaging and practical, rather than droning on just grammar. I also have worked with students to reduce their accent with my neutral Midwestern accent.

I am culturally sensitive and very respectful of my students' needs, not just in learning ESL, in order to create a safe and comfortable learning environment so that my students can excel.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have over 5 years of teaching ESL to adults and children in both classroom and private settings. I have restructured testing standards and created new curricula for my previous organizations to better serve students to deal with everyday life in the US by incorporating not only language instruction, but cultural instruction as well. I am a native speaker with a neutral accent that is easy to understand and emulate.

Korean

I am a native speaker of Korean and I have taught privately to children using the Korean Language Book series by Dr. Hee Seo Park as recommended by the Korean American Center of Education. I start with the alphabet, but quickly move on to partial immersion so that my students get used to hearing and speaking as much as possible. I encourage an interactive technique: listening to songs, watching movies, and field trips to local restaurants and stores to reinforce using Korean.

Photography

I am a professional editorial photographer specializing in portraits for clients such as Crain's, Chicago Magazine, Time Out, CS, Red Eye, MIT, U of Chicago, CME. Adept at in-studio and location lighting, Adobe Creative Suite software.
