Hi Friends,

My name is Briana and I want to be your tutor! Famous philosopher and mathematician, Aristotle said, "All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth". From quiet in-class observation, to late night discussions with my older brother, to humble exhortation of high school professors -- I've always had a passionate interest in education stirring within. With a love of kids, commitment, potential for growth as well as already cultivated ability, I believe I will leave a mark in education -- and more essentially, I hope I will leave a mark on every student. I dream of students becoming who they were created to be -- vibrant, confident learners and leaders, made to prosper and succeed in everything they rightly put their hearts and minds to.

Having fostered various significant skills applicable to the teaching profession, with highest honors, I recently completed my Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology from Texas A&M University. I am a qualified teacher (by the Texas Teachers program) having the requirements teach all elementary school subjects (EC-6) as well as middle school science. I used to be a second grade teacher at a Texas Education Center in Lewisville (a Christian character-based education charter school) but I resigned in order to spend more time with my family and help with my husbands business. I loved the 2nd graders and have become experienced with their stage of cognitive development. Based on spending hours in my classroom, my boss remarks of my talent in stimulating higher order thinking skills.

Even though I graduated college with a 3.9 out of 4.0 GPA, I'm not a "genius" with any extraordinary mental talents - which honestly, I believe has made me a great teacher. The fact that I am more simple-minded in many ways, means that I take observation of every single step needed to reach a conclusion, making me a very thorough student and teacher. I've done well in all of my college courses, including straight A's in 2 years of math.

I also want to point out that as a Philosophy major I spent many hours studying, understanding and analyzing how people think. Matched with a Psychology minor, I really have a lot of knowledge about how the brain functions as well as how that effects people as learners. I'm a very intuitive person, and from experience in studying with, and teaching peers (not an uncommon experience in my history) I have a knack for seeing where they people get stuck and accordingly how to best help realign them on the right track. I also know many memory tricks, and tips for doing well on exams.

I believe that enjoyment and encouragement can be fundamental motivators for success. These will necessarily be qualities I commit to in any tutoring relationship. Also, I stand by the need to enable students to be their own teachers for continued and future individual success. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly -- I'm a Christian who values moral uprightness as well as grace and loving-kindness toward every human being.

Great, funny and helpful tutor. — I usually find it tough to talk to new people, let alone tutors. However, Briana is a very nice person who can make you laugh, and help you understand the subject. So far, she's helped me finish assignments I've put off for a good year because I couldn't understand the material. I mean, does it get any better? I've had a great experience so far! ...
