I've been a professional writer and communicator for nearly 10 years. Most recently I've worked as a writing and English tutor in DISD, but need a new job after DISD lets out for the summer.
My skills include being an account executive and public relations professional with expertise in corporate communications, journalistic writing and Web technologies. I have a proven ability to direct media relations, handle breaking news and write content for traditional and electronic media.
I am the (part-time) Dallas correspondent for The New York Times. I cover breaking news and work on the Investigations desk. Until recently, when I was laid off, my full time job was as the senior media relations consultant at AT&T's headquarters in downtown Dallas. In that job, I handled internal and external communications with a heavy emphasis on writing and editing.
Before that, I was the director of public relations at Northwood University for three years. Again, a lot of writing, editing and working with students and teachers.
I also served as a reporter and columnist at the Dallas Business Journal. I wrote about retail, restaurants and hotels. My first job out of college was as a staff writer for The Dallas Morning News. I covered crime, courts, a city, schools and taxes.
I have a B.A. in journalism, a minor in psychology, from the State University of New York in Brockport, New York.
I graduated magna cum laude, served as editor-in-chief of the student-run newspaper and was a member of the communications honor society.
I also spent a semester at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. I studied creative writing and psychology, ultimately attaining a 4.0 average and writing for the independent student-run newspaper Cherwell.
It's also worth noting I grew up in a house where both my parents were English teachers.
I offer in-person tutoring. I hope to hear from you!
